Dressing well in mid-life: Where style meets comfort
Share
Menopause brings changes - and your wardrobe often needs to change with it. Hot flushes, fabric sensitivity and weight fluctuations can all affect how you want to dress. But don't panic - staying stylish and feeling like yourself isn’t just possible - it’s easier than ever with the right fabrics, shapes, and layers.
At Weartwo, we specialise in designing with women’s real lives in mind. Here’s our take on how to dress beautifully and comfortably through every stage.
1. The power of breathable fabrics
When body temperature fluctuates, breathable fabrics are your best friend. Natural fibres like cotton, linen, and bamboo help you stay cool and dry, while feeling soft against the skin.
Our personal favourite, and what we use in all our garments, is a luxurious modal-cotton blend. Modal is derived from beech tree pulp, giving it a silky texture and excellent breathability, perfect for regulating body temperature throughout the day. Blended with cotton, it becomes more resilient and long-lasting. This winning combination is gentle on the skin while creating polished looks that avoid bagging and creasing.
2. Layering: Your everyday solution
Temperature changes can happen suddenly - layering gives you options. Start with a light, breathable base like a modal top and add removable layers like cardigans, soft jackets, open linen shirts, or soft scarves/wraps.
Layering lighter weight pieces creates texture and movement without bulk and they can be taken off easily during a hot flush or added when you feel chilly.
We recommend Story Cashmere for their excellent quality wraps.
3. Shapes that flatter and flow
Softly tailored pieces are great for creating polished looks and highlighting shape without clinging. Think wrap dresses, A-line skirts, wide-leg trousers and soft blazers. Choose fabrics with a bit of stretch for ease. Strategic prints or vertical lines can elongate the silhouette.
Wide-leg trousers, especially those with an elasticated waistband, offer a stylish alternative to jeans and are more forgiving if you’re experiencing bloating or discomfort. Higher or mid rise options smooth the waist and elongate the legs. Wrap styles adjust with your body, offering a flexible, flattering fit all day long.
4. Don't overlook your footwear
Hot flushes can affect your feet too. Choose leather or suede shoes that allow ventilation and avoid synthetic linings where possible.
Lightweight sandals, loafers or minimal trainers are great options, and features like memory foam or arch support can keep you feeling grounded and comfortable.
We recommend Air & Grace (they go up to a size 8 UK)
5. Undergarments that work with you
The right underwear can make all the difference. Look for non-wired bras or bralettes in cotton or bamboo blends - soft, supportive, and breathable.
We recommend Stripe & Stare and Bravissimo (for larger boobs)
High-waisted cotton or modal briefs offer comfort and a gentle hold around the waist, while seamless styles prevent digging and give a polished silhouette.
NIXI Body knickers are great for no VPLs with the added bonus of being discreetly absorbent.
6. Style as self-expression
This stage of life is yours - so dress in a way that makes you feel confident and don't try to be someone you're not. Wear colours, prints, and textures that lift your mood. Add personality with accessories - a bold earring/necklace, a scarf, or a fabulous coat. The key is comfort that feels authentically you.
And finally...
Menopause may shift your needs, but your sense of style can stay beautifully intact.
With breathable fabrics, layered looks, and flattering cuts, you can dress in a way that supports your body and reflects your personality - every step of the way.
At Weartwo, that’s what we're all about.
